Being a Rescuer

Being a rescuer isn't easy.
It's tough, it's painful and heartbreaking.
It's easy being on the outside, saying:
"you should've, could've have done this
and that and because you didn't,
this and that happened."
We are human, we make mistakes but
most importantly, money
don't fall from the sky and
getting equipment, supplies,
medicine and veterinarian care,
is extremely expensive and
just because we are nonprofit,
doesn't mean we get any discounts,
government aid, freebies or rebates.
On the contrary,
we often get exploited on a daily basis,
cause they know we will rip off
our own limbs to save a single animal.
And because of this, we sometimes
have to let some of the animals go too soon,
or say No to new rescues, simply because
we don't have the funds to care for them.
Or we do have the funds but,
using those funds would diminish
the quality of life of the rescues
we already do have in our care.
Regardless how we balance every dime
and dollar, someone will always cast blame,
that we didn't do enough,
even though we go days without sleep,
weeks, without eating, never going
on any vacations, never buying anything
for ourselves and never even leaving
our home, cause the animals needs us,
or a rescue could arrive,
at any second and if we aren't home,
we will blame ourselves for not being there,
not being ready for them.
Not only that, but life is delicate
and sometimes, accidents happen
that may or may not have been preventable.
Again, we are only human,
we are not perfect but we do try
our very best, always.
Last but not least,
we are weird, we are strange people
and more often than not,
we stick out like a sore thumb
cause we different.
We get mocked, bullied,
terrorised, targeted, ridiculed
and scrutinized for every single minor detail.
Being on social media
is a double edged sword,
we need the social media to fund
these expensive rescues but
at the same time,
we also get targeted by cruel people.
We even get targeted by jealous people,
heck, I had a young woman once,
who targeted Tintin, simply because
Tintin had more followers than her.
She made it her personal mission
to ruin Tintin's page and my reputation.
Additional:
Many of us rescuers don't have jobs of our own,
mening we have zero income,
cause all our time goes to the animals.
You simply can't do both
cause it's a 24/365 task, day and night.
So we don't have salaries, meaning that
every bite we eat,
are funds taken from the rescues,
which punches a hole in our hearts,
for every, single, bite we eat.
Cause that could've gone to a rescue.
That's why we don't buy anything for ourselves,
not even clothes.
We are poor, almost homeless too,
cause our home isn't our home,
it's the animals home.
I can't stress it enough,
how important every dollar you donate is,
it's literally the difference between life and death,
rescue and rescuer alike.
So please, be respectful,
be kind, to every kind.

Decan, You are a shining light in what it means to be self-sacrificing and selfless in an ever growing selfish and self-centered world we live in. Words cannot convey the appreciation for all that you do. I am right now due to health and financial struggles, facing the possibility of having to move. But when I find I am in a better place, I am going to send you what I can to help.
❤️🐿️🌳
Thank you Decan. Sadly all you said is so true. It is so hard for the people and rescuers like you who put their hearts on the line and get heartache but also thank goodness you do get some happy uplifting times too. I hope you are ok, its so sad there are people who don't care what they say to hurt people, but who would never be able to walk in your shoes. Thank you so much for all you do.
